Spirit & Life

“The Good, the Spirt & the Sun”

From The First Drop

Genesis 1:1 – 2:4a
The unfolding story of creation…

Reflection

When finishing an essay for university, and rereading the opening page, I realised I had written “Good, the Spirt and the Sun” – my typos made me laugh! And made me think.
God of goodness, graciousness, creator, growth and renewal. The Spirit overflowing deep in our hearts, with soul songs, fiery presence, advocating, calling, calming. The Son, whose eternally shining light, as bright as the sun, shows us a clearer way of living, where life’s paths of darkness are ameliorated by the light of hope, wisdom, forgiving unconditional love, forever present. Genesis speaks of the revealing of life through turbulence and calm. In the cycle of life, the good, the spirt of energy erupting through the turbulence, as the sun breaks into the darkness, shining light so that all is seen and can be understood.

As we celebrate Trinity Sunday across our churches, let us not lose sight of the renewal in ourselves, where creative problem-solving and lateral thinking have brought forth wonderful new ways of worship and being church; where light of hope shines as we, the whole people of God. ‘be and do church’ together. From the first moment, renewal begins a constant and everlasting cycle of life.

May we be of one mind, one faith and one community,
as part of God’s realm, with the Spirit’s energy and in the light of Christ.

2 Cor 13: 11-12
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

The Great Commission Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And sureIy, am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Prayer – From the First Drop
As the rain falls and meets the earth,
the blessed cycle of healing begins.
Droplets sliding from leaf to leaf,
like tears of thankful joy,
cascade and fall, quenching the earth,
soaking the soil, refreshing the thirsty, delicately giving life.

From the first drop
all life is touched.
connected with the earth,
all living beings are restored through this gift.

Be awake to this first drop,
So that, with our feet firmly planted on the ground,
our senses aware of being embedded in this cycle,
we, who live and breathe and seek our being,
grow, too, in our understanding.

Together, with the earth and all that is subtle and delicate,
we breath in the healing air,
we drink in the restoring water,
we share in the gifts of foraged food,
and find healing from the microbe,
to the many gifts of which we are unaware.

So, let us go gently with our earth,
who, mothering and holding all,
speaks with the Spirit of Life,
declares the Knowledge of Creation,
and enables us to find firm footing,
even when we do not always live lovingly.
May we listen, learn and love with creation
as we all partake the gifts
from the first drop.

Blessing as we journey forward…

Go with the grace that greets us each day,
as sure as the sun rises.
Live with the balance of the earth.
Be aware of
the loving embrace of the breeze,
the warming touch of the sun,
the sensual delight of the food tastes,
the refreshment offered through pure water.
For these are the gifts in which we celebrate
that we are one in creation.

May we tenderly care,
with subtlety and fullness,
life together, as one with creation,
From the first drop.
